Day 7 - Birthday Chocolate!

Red’s Meadows to Deer Creek trail, 9104  elevation.

Today we traveled: 6miles 1601ft elevation gain 289ft elevation loss.

JMT mile marker: 66.4mile.

Today we had a late start to hiking. We got up early but needed a few more hours to fully charge our electronics. Uploading pictures and texting on a low cell reception is draining our phones quickly. We drunk our coffee and ate breakfast while charging in quiet camp as everyone left for the day early.

I think I like our wilderness camping better over a hosted one.

We decided to take it easy today and split the big climb ahead of us into 2 days vs. one like the itinerary I made suggested.

The days are only getting hotter and without much shade the climbs are miserable. Today the high was over 90F and no cloud in sight. That’s ok with me, but it makes our progress a bit slower than usual. So back to rearranging our schedule for the next 3 days and taking it easy for the day, calling it quits early and getting a fresh and early start tomorrow.

Today is my birthday and I can’t think of somewhere else I rather be. I also get to et my birthday chocolate.

Yifat

Oh - we camped at Deer creek and we were talking about how we haven’t seen too many deer after Yosemite when all of a sudden 3 deer came stumbling up the creek near to our camp to munch on flowers. It shouldn’t surprise me by now how life on the trail has little moments like this that make absolutely no sense and yet it makes the most sense.
