Day 5 Aug 8th

Feels like History Repeating by Propeller Heads and Shirley Bassey. Today we did Three climbs and three descents. We saw Mt Ritter and Mt Banner from many angles. Saw a sooty grouse with chicks and a purple ranger button. Had granola for breakfast after first climb near a montaine lake. The pack felt light today, at least for first five miles. We are one day out from resupply at reds meadows. We switched out of 3D distance mode on our watches because they continue to mismatch map mileage. We are always show higher miles. Today was much closer. Which I suspect means our watches are more accurate when doing alot of climbing and descending. Today we started thinking about most valuable non-essential gear. Top picks so far chairs (1.1 lb) and hiking poles (weight doesn't count for pack weight because we are always Viking Hiking. We brought matches for safety reasons, but now there essential to get stove lit. The ignitor stopped working.Stopped early and took a dip in shadow creek. super refreshing. We camped between broken granite slabs next to lodgepole pines, mountain hemlock and mountain heather. Now lunch (rice and beans) and later Cheesy Pasta Bolognese. Tomorrow is a big day 12.3 miles to resupply. Going to sleep early and relatively clean tonight. YC chided me about finding multiple uses for what I'm carrying when I started talking about the blankey (.5 lbs) I cancelled. So I put my clothes under the thermrest pad to stop it squeaking. It worked with benefits, clothes were warm and pressed (ala Jack Reacher method) in the morning.
