Started off in the flatlands for several miles before we started climbing. Saw bunches of belding ground squirrels. They act like prairie dogs and aren't afraid to be close to you. We were concerned about water so I carried an extra liter. Ranger Rick was coming down and checked our permit but told us there was water at many places on the climb. I dumped the liter (2.2 lbs). There was even water at the top. the lakes on the way up were aqua blue and crystal clear. It was so quiet it was surreal. The day started out feeling like Stink Fist by Tool. and then switched to When I Dream by Moderator. The trail was hard to follow, basically scrambling on granite. We got off a few messages at the top of Donohue pass and had a brami before striking down a tedious descent. Shade was hard to find for lunch and we settled underneath some white bark pine for dal with rice. I think we kicked a marmot out . a couple of firsts today, we had to pull out the first aid kit and put some mile skin on my toe. Yifat took a tumble and her watch ran out of juice. SUPER RAMEN for dinner. SUPER RAMEN you ask? It is simply Ramen twice in same bag. Tested in test kitchen to fit on our dinner bowls exactly. We are taking a chance and not putting on the rain fly not for rain but for cold.
