Edison Lake |
VVR to Seven Gables trail 9548ft elevation. Today we traveled: 12.25miles 3228ft elevation gain 1348ft elevation loss.
JMT mile marker: 97.1mile.
Last night was the first night that I didn’t see the moon shining bright. Usually I see it through the tent or even the yurt and it was surprising not to see it. I guess it’s small enough so trees can block its light.
We got up to a chilly morning. Thinking we have some time before the ferry leaves (9am) we headed to breakfast and get some coffee. When we got to the restaurant/store they informed us that the ferry that we came in with - broke down and they will use a small boat to take us back. This ment they would need to do more boat trips and they asked us if we’ll be ready at 7:30am or wanted to wait for a later trip around 10am. After consulting and realizing it was already 7:17am there was no way we could make the 7:30am but the 10am was too late. We ordered breakfast and the sweet employee (that took good care of us the whole time we were there) said “go have breakfast, we’ll figure it out”. Knowing everyone that was supposed to leave on the early boat was waiting for their food we didn’t worry much. We finished eating and were told that now they are going to have 2 boats leaving around 8am. We went back to pack and checked out.
The boats left around 8:30am and we were (4 passengers and the captain) on a fast boat. It took us about 25min to get across the lake to the other side.
During the trip, a fighter jet flew right above us and made a sharp turn making deafening sound that surprised us all. We had a good laugh about it and our captain howl in excitement. He thought the engine broke or something and almost shit his pants (his words)

Our Captain behind Bob |
Our hike was to get over 2000ft of a mountain, Bear Ridge, leading to bear creek. It must had 25+ switchbacks, I stoped counting. It was shaded and we were in the forest cover for most of the day. There was no sign saying “You did it! You are at the top!!” So when we finish the climb it was anti-climatic. We had breakfast and continue on. After a short downhill we reached the creek that was flowing real good and I couldn’t wait to soak my feet. Resting for a day helped big time and it seemed to help both foot pain and blisters! Yay!!
We follow the creek crossing back and forth using rocks or logs to cross, until it was time to camp.
Tonight we sleep in our tent - It feels good to be out here again, Yifat
