Day 0

We made it to Yosemite National Park. 

We started the day at 4am. With all the excitement, we woke up earlier than needed to catch our 6:10am bus. It would take us from Lone Pine to Mammoth Lakes and from there another bus would bring us to Yosemite Valley. 

It was a long ride, a pretty ride but still long, we arrived just after noon and walked to the wilderness office to claim our golden ticket: a permit to hike the JMT from Happy Isles. Only 15 people claim that ticket everyday during the summer months, mid June to mid September when the trail is clear of snow and storms and is safe to hike.  

As we entered Yosemite and drove around seeing Half dome, it hit me that we are here.     It is happening.

I got choked up with emotions - we’ve been talking, planing, prepping, researching and pretty much obsessing about this hike, about this journey for the last year and I can’t believe we are here ready to start.
