Day 24 Forester Pass

We climb Forester. It's a bitch especially since mileage is way off between our watches and the map- meaning we hike more than we are expecting. We only get started at 9:30 because we had to dry everything.

We aren't seeing as many hikers. I think the weather is delaying starts from Whitney? We saw Whitney today for the first time.

First Glimpse of Mt Whitney!

Forester feels like Until I Collapse by Eminem (YC contribution). We are very close to finish. 16 miles to top of Whitney? And 10 or so to the portal. We've been rained on 5 or 6 days straight on the trail. Not counting zero day in Independence. It's supposed to rain today but so far no. Finally spied four F18s today. We’ve been hearing jet planes for a week or so. Loud and close, but we can never see them. YC sheds light on the mystery because of the JMT book she is reading. It seems that China Lake testing range is close and military jets come from Lamar, Edward’s and other air bases to train. Today is the first time we actually see them.

Sustenance on climb

Crazy trail to top

Did I use the adjective crazy already?

We are strong after the pass and eat up the miles after Forester deep into next valley which is a moonscape. We get to trees to make camp. And we are prepared for rain, gutters, dams etc. around the tent but ........no rain!
