Journeys on the trail : Day 22 - It’s another zero day but we end up walking 5miles

We wake up and have breakfast with some of hikers we met yesterday. They served us vegan waffles - it was good. We need to check out of this hotel and walk down the street to another one because they are full at Mt. Williamson.

Before we do - Rob and I are on the lookout for a new air mattress as we both got one that leaks. We make some phone calls and Big Willy in the next town over got them and since he is in Big Pine he will drop it on his way back from work tonight. I got the Zpack or whatever that is - it’s a bigger mattress than what I have and a little heavier. Much cheaper and I’m hoping it will stay inflated for the 5 nights I need it.

We decided to check the coffee shop in town on our way to the new hotel since we have some time to kill. Well that trip was a bust, the coffee shop is closed. We walk farther to one of the 2 gas stations in town that have a deli attached and we get a veggie sandwich. We got some appetite and we enjoy eating every 2hr or so. We walk to the Courthouse motel and talk to the owner. The room isn’t ready but she invites us to sit and rest. We decide to go back to Mt. Williamson and hang out there where there’s more people and we have fast internet to work on the blog.

Yesterday I couldn’t find my sun gloves when we hiked down from the mountain. I think a chipmunk stole them when I left them to dry out after the rain. Well, I was talking to Mt. Williamson owner and telling her about it when I was checking out. About half an hour after she came to me with a set of new sun gloves - someone left them in the room and they already checked out and back on the trail. What?! Even Steven. These gloves are new and my size. Well it’s true - the trail provides!! I was so happy.

We hangout for couple hours until we are too hot and we go back to check on the room. Every trip back and forth is hot and takes about 10min. The room is ready - and we start working on our resupply bucket, opening the vacuumed seal bags with a regular ziplock bags to save room in our bear vault. We decide to shade some weight. We dump the nail clippers, the Deet, the little deodorant I picked up at MTR and used twice. Extra meals and the leaky mattress. We switch our fuel can to a smaller one and make sure we have enough TP. We learned our lesson.

We go to eat lunch around 3pm at the Lemon food truck. I get veggie tacos no cheese and Bob is asking for a quesadilla no cheese. The lady tries to explain that quesadilla is a tortilla with cheese. He repeats the order. This goes on for several moments. He wins. To be honest it does look good when he gets it and we eat happily.

Back to our room to rest for a bit in the AC. Around 5pm we are going back to Mt Williamson to pick up my new mat.

We chitchat with Rob and decide to go to eat dinner at Glenn’s. I get veggie tacos and a salad both no cheese and Bob repeats his order from lunch. Quesadilla no cheese. Again this doesn’t go without a fight but he wins again and again it looks very good.
